Past Events
Collaborative Siting Community Workshop - Utah
During our August Collaboration-Based Siting workshop in Bluff & Blanding, Utah, our team connected with Native community members and learned how the nuclear energy cycle has impacted their lives—particularly during the mining and milling stages. We also visited the White Mesa Mill, and though the discussions were heavy, we were encouraged by the community's motivation to work toward a more transparent relationship between the local industry and surrounding community.
Collaborative Siting Community Workshop - San Diego
At our San Diego Collaborative Siting trip with Mothers for Nuclear and NC State University, we toured The San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, a decommissioned nuclear plant in San Diego County. The visit deepened our commitment to demystifying misconceptions about nuclear energy and supporting energy projects that honor community voices and long-term sustainability.
Collaborative Siting Community Workshop - Las Vegas
Native Nuclear presented with NC State University and Mothers for Nuclear to carry out the DOE’s program on the Collaborative Siting of Consolidated Storage Facilities. The Las Vegas workshop reminded us that as we move forward with developments in nuclear energy, community engagement and communication must be prioritized alongside the science.
Collaborative Siting Community Workshop - Washington, DC
In Washington, DC, our team shared a vision for a more inclusive nuclear future—one rooted in Native leadership, community-first values, and overdue conversations about tribal sovereignty in nuclear energy development. We met with officials at the Department of Energy and the Office of Indian Affairs, shared space in the Atoms for Peace room, and visited the National Museum of the American Indian to ground our conversations in culture, history, and possibility.
North American Young Generation in Nuclear Continental Conference
Scott joined a panel at the NAYGN Continental Conference in a session titled "Nuclear in My Backyard: Importance of Consent-Based Siting." The speakers explored the critical role of community engagement and collaboration in shaping the future of nuclear energy.
Oklahoma City Community Workshop
With NC State University and Mothers for Nuclear, our team discussed the Collaborative Siting of Consolidated Storage Facilities in Oklahoma City. At the First Americans Museum, we connected with tribal representatives, creating a space where conversations about clean energy were accessible and grounded in respect. Scott and Ryan then offered their expertise at a community workshop for attendees to ask questions, share insights, and pose concerns about the future of nuclear energy.
SF Climate Week
Native Nuclear’s CEO, Scott Lathrop, spoke at California Nuclear: Past, Present, Future—a panel exploring where we've been and where we're going when it comes to nuclear energy in California. As a member of the yak titʸu titʸu yak tiłhini Northern Chumash Tribe and a leader in nuclear energy advocacy, Scott brings a Native perspective to one of the most urgent conversations of our time.
